Part II of a three-part series exploring the hidden life of location data: I) the unexpected ways your location is tracked, II) what your location reveals about you, and III) how to take control of your location data.
🔆 Taking Control of Your Location Data
Videos like this, while a great summary, can make it feel like there’s no way to avoid being tracked. But that’s not the full picture.
Although you may not be able to turn everything off, you can control how much of your data is shared, when it’s shared, and which systems have access to it.
Over the past two weeks, we’ve explored how your location is tracked and how those signals can turn into patterns that reveal your habits and routines.
At this point, it’s natural to have a reaction like:
“So… does this mean I’m being tracked all the time?”
In some ways, yes.
Your phone is constantly sending and receiving signals through Wi-Fi, cell towers, Bluetooth, and apps even when you’re not actively using it.
However, you CAN take action. That’s where your Privacy Dial comes in to ensure your settings reflect what matters to you.
💼 Briefing Room
This week’s question:
Where does control still exist in a system designed to collect data?
Our Privacy Brief explores where you have meaningful choices, and how those choices can shape your digital footprint over time.
💛 The Key Takeaway:
You may not control every system that collects location data, but you can control how much of your data those systems receive.
Read the Brief now. Read it later. It will be there when you’re ready.
🐾 One Paw at a Time
Control doesn’t mean disappearing. It means making choices about:
- which apps can access your location
- when your phone is broadcasting signals
- what data is collected in the background
- how much of your daily routine becomes part of a data trail
💛🐾 Even small changes can reduce how much data is collected over time, and those choices can send a strong signal to companies that privacy matters to you.
